Realization of MPLS-Based VPN Network for Improved Qos Metrics

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is an emerging technology which ensures the reliable delivery of Internet Services with high transmission and lower delays. It is mainly used for its effective management of networks for the efficient utilization of networks due to the many disadvantages that are associated with traditional networking such as cost, inadequate security, delay etc. In this work, the comparison of effectiveness of the MPLS-VPN network in a classic VPN architecture and a basic MPLS network using simulations done on the OPNET modeler 14.5 from Riverbed Technologies. The comparison is made based on performance metrics such as end to end delay, voice packet delay, VPN delay, point to point queuing delay, voice packet sent and received, amount of traffic in Label Switched Paths (LSPs). The result obtained from the empirical study shown that MPLS-based VPN network has lower background traffic flow delay, LSP delay and has better performance in VPN load and VPN throughput.
