Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui gejala-gejala vicarioustrauma -dan dampaknya dalam kehidupan relawan, faktor-faktor penyebabvicarious trauma, serta harapan-harapan relawan bagi instansi danpemerintah. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metodepenelitian kualitatif yang berlandaskan fenomenologi karena dapatmengungkap makna dari suatu peristiwa.Berdasarkan hasil analisis penelitimelalui wawancara dan observasi, menunjukkan bahwa relawan yangkembali dari tugasnya mengalami vicarious trauma sebagai dampak dariinteraksi dengan beberapa korban trauma. Ada dua faktor utama penyebab terjadinya vicarious trauma pada relawan yaitu faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Faktor internal termasuk di dalamnya karakteristik dan dayatahan yang dimiliki serta bagaimana kinerja relawan tersebut, sedangkanfaktor eksternal seperti jenis korban, lingkungan sosial dan iklim pekerjaanyang banyak memakan waktu dengan segala jenis permasalahan yang ada.
