Development of Competency Index System for Tutor of Postgraduate Nursing Students

Abstract


To develop a competency index system for tutor of postgraduate nursing students with nursing characteristics in China and provide a reference basis to the director in nursing educational institutions and decision-making departments for assessing tutors. Based on Iceberg competency theory, the indexs were selected by literature review and group discussion, including 5 first-level indexs, 13 second-level indexs and 64 third-level indexs. Then, we chosed 30 nursing experts around 16 provinces to carry out two rounds of Delphi consultation. Next, The candidate indexs are analyzed statistically and selected again. There were 22 nursing experts taking parting in two rounds of delphi consultation. The authority coefficient of the second round was 0.93, the coefficient of variation of each item ranged from 0.00 to 0.02 in the second round, and the chi-square of Kendall's concordance coefficient are statistically significant (P<0.001). Finally, we construct the competency index system, consisting 5 first-level indexs,13 second-level indexs and 68 third-level indexs. The competency index system are more reliable and scientific, and can be used to select and evaluate tutors.
